Biography
Pier Paolo De Gregorio Borrás.
I was born in Italy in 1970 from italian and spanish parents, I grew up in Tuscany and Catalonia. I started playing drums at the age of fourteen, and took lessons with several drummers, among them; Julian Vaughn, Clifford Jarvis, and Bryan Spring.
During the 90's I moved to London, and played around with various rock and funk bands, later I moved to jazz and impro. In 1999 I moved to Bologna, Italy, and I had the chance to take part to various bands and projects, one of them was La Carboneria, a flamenco ensemble of dancers and musicians. It was within this context that I discovered the Cajón.
In Seville I attended a workshop led by Manolo Soler, and subsequently worked with some of the best professional flamenco dancers and musicians based in Italy, as well as spanish artists on tour.
I started building cajónes recently, by chance, when I made one for a kid, but soon enough, thanks to the friendly advice of carpenters and guitar makers, I was able to make a Cajón that has been appreciated by American, English, Spanish and Italian percussionists, specialized in various styles of music.
DG Cajónes are distributed in the U.K. by SOAR VALLEY MUSIC, in Spain by MADRID MUSICAL, in Germany by GEWA and in Japan by KIKUTANI.
Every piece is personally tested by me, to ensure that there isn't any unwanted buzz or unbalanced sound, as if I was going to play them live.
